From today, 2 April, MercyAscot Hospitals and Mercy Radiology change their names to Allevia Hospitals and Allevia Radiology. This change marks a significant milestone in the companies’ evolution, bringing together their services under a unified brand—Allevia Health.
Allevia Health, formerly Healthcare Holdings Limited, will be the umbrella entity for the organisations, with existing services such as Allevia Hospitals and Allevia Radiology reflecting the new brand identity.

The name Mercy has been integral to the companies’ legacy since 1850 when the Sisters of Mercy introduced their pioneering model of one-to-one care for the sick in Auckland.
However, according to Andrew Wong, Managing Director of Allevia Health, the name change has always been part of a long-term strategy to bring all the brands together into one house.
“Our association with the Mercy name is coming to a natural conclusion, as we always knew it would. Now is the time to build our own identity,” says Wong. “By uniting our brands under Allevia Health, we are making it easier for patients to navigate our services while also developing innovative care models that offer timely diagnosis and treatment.”
The rebrand coincides with the expansion of Mercy Hospital, which will open a new theatre block in May this year—further enhancing its ability to provide world-class healthcare and meeting the increasing demand for healthcare services in the Auckland region.
Allevia Health is one of New Zealand’s largest private healthcare providers, known for its commitment to patient-centred care, and remains a proud New Zealand-owned company. While medical science continues to advance, the company remains focused on delivering a seamless healthcare experience, built around A Better Health Journey—a model designed to improve access, streamline patient pathways, and optimise treatment outcomes.
“This is just the beginning,” adds Wong. “We are embarking on a new chapter in private healthcare, one that will set new benchmarks for efficiency, innovation, and human-centred patient care in New Zealand.”
How did our new logo come about? Why does it include a koru?
As a New Zealand company, we want to ensure our new identity embraces and celebrates both the unique aspects of our local culture and aligns with our values and purpose as a business.
We understand the cultural significance of the koru imagery and it wasn’t included in the design for purely aesthetic reasons.

During the development of our new brand, we engaged with a Māori designer Adam Errington to ensure the appropriateness of the use of the koru. He says:
“The single koru, as abstraction of the pikokpiko, symbolises regrowth in this instance. Depicted under the tuanui or wharenui of Allevia it represents the transformative healing of the individual under Allevia’s care. Our kōrero is about patient care and medical transformation. Allevia literally means ‘a place of alleviation’ and a Māori lens has been included in the design of our logotype.”

Our principles of care, Ngā Rākau Turuturu, are also core to our strategy, developed with our Director for Equity, Transformation and Customer Experience, Joseph Stafford. These principles are being embedded across the group as we rebrand. They are tied directly to what we do as a business.
